Des Moines Register 04-02-06 Grassroots ISU professors cited for work Levon Esters, Iowa State University assistant professor in agricultural education and studies, has been appointed to a national committee to organize a leadership summit to help universities attract, retain and prepare students for careers in agriculture and science. Esters was selected by the National Academies Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources based on his expertise in career development. His research focuses on identifying factors that influence the career choices of students enrolled in secondary and post-secondary agriculture programs. Also recognized for his work at Iowa State was Joel Coats, a professor of entomology and toxicology. He will receive the International Award for Research in Agrochemicals in Atlanta. A one-day symposium in honor of Coats was held Monday at the 231st American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting and Exposition. For the past 30 years, Coats has studied insect and environmental toxicology. He spearheaded formation of the interdepartmental toxicology graduate program at Iowa State and served as its first chairman
