Pest Control, OH 03-30-06 Joel R. Coats Receives ACS's International Award for Research in Agrochemicals NASHVILLE, Tenn. — EcoSMART Technologies’ Scientific Advisory Panel member Joel R. Coats was presented with the International Award for Research in Agrochemicals recently at the 231st American Chemical Society national meeting in Atlanta. Coats is currently a professor of entomology and toxicology in the Department of Entomology at Iowa State University. He has worked on EcoSMART’s Scientific Advisory Panel since 1998. A symposium at the ACS meeting honored Coats, who has devoted more than 30 years to the investigation of insect toxicology and the environmental toxicology and chemistry of agrochemicals. His research in insect toxicology focuses primarily on natural products as insecticides and insect repellents; his study of the environmental effects, degradation and mobility of modern agrochemicals includes conventional and natural insecticides, herbicides, insecticidal Bt protein toxins from transgenic plants, and veterinary drugs. “Dr. Coats is very deserving of this award and its international recognition,” said EcoSMART’s founder and president, Steven Bessette. “He has been an integral part of EcoSMART’s research and development program, and we look forward to continuing this rewarding relationship.”
