Residential Living Parents’ Pal A newsletter for the families of residence hall students—spring 2016 Dates to know May 2-20 Fall hall sign-up Residents have the opportunity to select where they will live in fall 2016. Details are available online (click on the fall hall sign-up topic in the “News and Events” column at www.uwsp.edu/resliving). The fall sign-up link has been available since March 30. Residents must pay their $125 housing prepayment and submit their completed housing contract on or before 11:59 p.m., April 23 to ensure priority in this process. May 21 Residence halls close All residence halls close at 10 a.m. on this date. Residents must vacate their room within 24 hours of their last final or by 10 a.m., May 21, whichever comes first. (Individuals participating in commencement must contact their hall director to arrange a later checkout time.) July 1 Last day to terminate housing contract and receive $100 of the $125 prepayment back. There are different conditions for Suites@201 residents; contact Residential Living for details. September 4 Fall move-in begins for returning students Move-in begins at 9 a.m. Residents may move in any day thereafter. September 6 First day of classes for fall 2016 Fall hall sign-up begins Spring 2016 residents are able to choose where they will live next fall. Room sign-up for current residents is an online process allowing residents to select where they will live for fall 2016. Between March 31-April 23 residents pay their $125 housing prepayment (either online or at the Bursar’s Office) and then complete their housing contract. Residents can pay their $125 prepayment and submit a housing contract after April 24, but will lose priority standing for hall sign-up. Returning residents may use our online application process between March 30-April 23. After April 25, residents will be able to submit their housing contract (online), but will have lost the priority for their same room. Residents who submit their contract by April 23 “default” to the room they are in now and have a number of opportunities to make a room change through the online link they receive from Residential Living via their UW-Stevens Point email account and at our department website. If you’d like to read more about the hall sign-up process and the options available to residents, please visit www.uwsp.edu/resliving and click on the link for hall sign-up in the “News and Events” column. (The link will be available beginning March 30.) UW Board of Regents’ policy requires all first-year and sophomore students to live in residence halls at four-year UW schools. More information about that policy and UW-Stevens Point’s interpretation can be found at www.uwsp.edu/resliving/pages/ faqspolicies/bor.aspx. Suites@201 (accurate as of publication date) Residential Living is still accepting applications for the Suites@201, our apartment-style residence hall. Information about the Suites@201 can be found on our website at www.uwsp.edu/resliving/pages/suites.aspx. Applicants must have graduated from high school in or before 2014 AND must commit to a full academic-year contract (they will not be able to opt out of their contract at the end of the fall semester—an option available in our other halls). If your student is eligible and is interested in living in this unique residence hall, please have them contact our office at 715-346-3511. The housing contract requires that residents check out 24 hours after their last final exam or by 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, whichever is earlier. Expect the checkout procedure to last approximately 15-30 minutes. Please remember staff are students too, and they also have final exams and moving responsibilities. We appreciate your assistance with the following when moving your student out in May: • Remember study hours are in effect during finals. When at all possible, dismantle lofts during the week prior to finals. Residents participating in the loft rental program will receive information from the loft company in late spring on how to return their rented loft. Below are the telephone numbers for a variety of university offices parents often wish to contact. • Please keep vehicles off the grass and sidewalks. Financial Aid Office 715-346-4771 • Remind your student to follow checkout procedures. All residents are required to complete paperwork, return keys and thoroughly clean their side of the room prior to departing. Parking Services 715-346-3900 • There are sites in each residence hall where unwanted food items (unopened) and clothing can be placed. Volunteers pick up the items and distribute them to local charities. In your student’s newsletter (Let’s Talk Housing), articles include information about on-campus summer housing, fall housing information and other timely topics.
