ISU Students Create New Foods
Ames, April 25, 2007--- Some Iowa State University students are capping off
the year with some tasty morsels.
Twenty-three senior Food Science majors at ISU spent the semester creating a
new food product as part of their course requirements. Senior Shelly Tomlinson
says their product was ice cream with cinnamon bits. It was unveiled today to
Blue Bunny representatives.
Tomlinson says the project is more than just creating recipes. "Totally surprising
on how much research and paperwork that actually goes into making a product
from consumer tests to percent overrun, all different kinds of analytical tests too
that you don't think about when you go to the grocery store and pick up a
product. There's a lot of research into it."
Tomlinson says it'll be neat if she can see her product on the shelf someday.
