Mrs. Pack’s Fridge Facts September 22nd- 26th Phonics Students will be spending the week reviewing the skills from our first unit: short vowels, long vowels spelled with VCe, blends, digraphs, and inflected endings, -ed and –ing. Reading: We have finished our first unit in Reading. Students will review the following comprehension skills: -Identifying characters, setting, and plot. -Identifying the main idea and supporting details. -Identifying features of expository (informational) text. Writing/Grammar: Students should be able to identify and write the following types of sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation: Declarative (telling) Interrogative (asking) Exclamatory (showing a strong feeling or excitement) Imperative (command) Math Students did very well on their Topic 2 assessment (Addition Strategies). . We are now working on Topic 3, Subtraction Strategies. Students are learning to subtract 0, 1 and 2 fluently, and how to use related addition strategies to subtract. Science/Social Studies Habit of the Week: Begin with the End in Mind (Have a plan, set goals.) Students will use maps to identify places. They will use a legend, or key along with symbols to understand different types of maps. Reminders -Please make sure your child has a jacket or sweatshirt each day as the weather turns cooler. -Our annual Fall Festival will be Friday, September 19th from 5:30-8:30. There will be games, food, and prizes to be raffled. -Please send a small, healthy snack each day for your child. We will have a very short snack break. -Students should read 15 minutes a night.
