Mrs. Pack’s Fridge Facts September 15th-19th Phonics This week our target is to read and spell words with consonant digraphs (th, sh, ch, tch, wh). Three spelling choices are due on Friday from your student’s green spelling folder. Writing/Grammar: Reading: This week students will identify facts and details as we read our story, The Strongest One. Genre: drama (a story written to be acted out) Vocabulary words to know: gone learn often pieces though together very dangerous gnaws narrator relatives Students will continue working on writing a complete sentence that includes capitalization and punctuation. We will learn about Imperative and Exclamatory sentences. Students will identify synonyms for various words. We will continue our study of personal narratives. Math Students will be assessed over addition strategies learned in Topic 2 (adding 0, 1 and 2, doubles, near doubles, adding three numbers, making a ten to add, problem solving). We will begin Topic 3: Subtraction Strategies. Students will learn to subtract 0, 1 and 2 fluently, and will learn to use related addition strategies to subtract. Science/Social Studies Habit of the Week: Begin with the End in Mind (Have a plan, set goals.) Students will use maps to identify places. They will use a legend, or key along with symbols to understand different types of maps. Reminders -Our annual Fall Festival will be Friday, September 19th from 5:30-8:30. There will be games, food, and prizes to be raffled. Second grade classes have been asked to send in individually wrapped desserts or snack cakes) We are also in need of prizes to be raffled (toys, clothing, books, home furnishings, etc.) and cakes for our Cake Walk if you are able to donate something. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering at our Fall Festival. -Please send a small, healthy snack each day for your child. We will have a very short snack break. Several students are forgetting snacks each day. We are out of classroom snacks. -Students should read 15 minutes a night. Please initial your child’s Navigator Guide indicating that he or she read at home. -Please do not allow your child to bring cell phones or electronic devices such as IPods to school.
