FORT SCOTT COMMUNITY COLLEGE Position Description MHT05 NAME: JOB TITLE: MHT Program Director/Instructor DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Mental Health Technician (MHT) RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Nursing and Allied Health Informal Reporting to: Associate Dean of Miami County Campus MONTHS PER YEAR: 12 HOURS PER WEEK: 40 New: 06/02/2015 Rev: CREDENTIALS/EDUCATION: 1. Licensure as a professional nurse in Kansas 2. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN) with successful experience in administration or teaching, and at least two years of experience in psychiatric or developmental disability nursing. 3. Must possess excellent communication skills: verbal, written, and electronic JOB PURPOSE/RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Responsible for the development and implementation of the MHT educational program. 2. Assist the Department Director with orientation, supervision, and evaluation of MHT faculty, clinical preceptors, and students 3. Assist with reviewing and upgrading of the course syllabi 4. Assist with scheduling of theory and clinical to meet program and course requirements 5. Provide course and clinical instruction as required 6. Maintain consistency in teaching theory and skills 7. Inform Department Director of proposed course changes 8. Ensure that cooperating agencies and nursing service have a copy of the schedule and clinical objectives 9. Provide preceptor orientation and maintain documentation of preceptor training, orientation materials, preceptor/student contracts, and evaluations. Provides the Department Director a list of preceptors, degrees, clinical area, license number, and any certifications 10. Assist with student counseling and evaluation as needed 11. Keep record of all student performance and progress (including absences and make-ups) SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Work with faculty to ensure job purpose/responsibilities are met 2. May supervise student clinical and lab performance 3. Act as liaison with clinical facility administration, education, and preceptor staff MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop consistency in course syllabi, student records, and teaching/learning methods 2. Market program to potential students in conjunction with FSCC Occupational Recruiter 3. Work with clinical agencies toward placement of graduates 4. Liaison in cooperation with Department Director toward the Kansas State Board of Nursing. 5. Maintain MHT Program in survey readiness by meeting all requirements set forth by KSBN through the Nurse Practice Act. 6. Schedule and chair Advisory Board meetings at least once a semester. 7. Facilitate the admission/acceptance process of students into the MHT Program 8. Provide course and program evaluations/student assessment and program quality improvement processes 9. Insure clinical education affiliation agreements with participating clinical agencies are in place, reviewed and renewed as required. 10. Network with the director of the Barton County Community College/Larned State Hospital MHT program in western Kansas to ensure both programs are equivalent. 11. Provide the point of contact regarding the MHT Program with FSCC departments, faculty, students, and public. 12. Review the MHT Student Handbook annually for updates and revisions. 13.
