English 7 Mr. Cain THE HITMAN, CORPORATIONS, AND GLOBAL CONTROL Select one: Pick ONE country or region and argue for how the Hitman strategies and the tactics applied there affected it. Reminder: You can focus on any impact you wish to emphasize: political, economic, cultural, environmental, health, educational, impact on the poor, or other. Your paper should: 1. Provide a historical context which enables the reader to understand what the situation was before the Hitman came and the reasons why control of that country was considered so strategically or economically important. 2. Present the specific strategies, tactics, or actions that were applied there and argue for whether they worked or enabled the power structure to gain control. 3. Present the end result of the Hitman strategy on that country or region and argue for the impact it had and how it relates to what that country or region is like today. Focus on the Corporatocracy itself and argue for how it affects us. Pick one or more corporations as prime example(s) of how it works. Tell us who the key players are, how they are involved, and argue against the manipulative strategies and tactics they use. What was the end result of their efforts? To what extent have they succeeded? Use statistics, examples, or other specific research to emphasize the impact or significance of the outcome. Take our knowledge of something we learned about in class readings or videos to the next level. Pick something interesting you’d like to pursue and run with it. Do research which extends our knowledge of it and explains how it works. Then argue for how it worsens the problem or the issue it relates to. The main thing here is to expose it, to increase our awareness of the topic chosen. ( The CIA? The NSA? The School for the Americas, the DEA? Big Oil? the Summer Language Institute? Project for the New American Century? The Skull and Bones Society’s connection to power? Something else? Just confirm your topic with me first, and then off you go ! ) Minimum Requirements: 1. A Cover Page which includes your name, class, day and hour, and the title of your essay. 2. Must be at least 5+ pages, no more than 8+, double spaced, 12 point font. 3. Maximum 1” margins all around, including the first page. (No headings on any page!) 4. Must use at least 8 citations or specific examples. Use these to confirm your claims, provide authoritative or expert support, or enable us to specifically measure the impact of the harm done. 5. Must use at least 2 outside sources of research. 6. Must include a MLA Works Cited page. PLEASE NOTE: Any essay which fails to meet the minimum standards (number of pages, number of citations, number of sources) will not receive a passing grade. ESSAY DUE: Wednesday, December 13
