Chabot College November 1993 Removed Fall 2010 Course Outline for Photography 68 COLOR SLIDE PHOTOGRAPHY Catalog Description: 68 - Color Slide Photography May be repeated 3 times 2 units Use of color slides to explore the solution of special technical and visual problems encountered in field shooting. Strongly recommended: Photography 50. 2 hours [Typical contact hours: 35] Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should: 1. demonstrate the ability to produce the correct exposure in special lighting situations such as side lighting, back lighting, fill light, etc.; 2. demonstrate the ability to effectively and creatively manipulate the depth of field and stop action capabilities of his or her own camera; 3. explore as many compositional possibilities as feasible and demonstrate an ability to evaluate the results and locate 4. produce at least one photo essay on an assigned topic using visually related imagery; 5. demonstrate an ability to control the total image area of their film and to both compose images "full frame" and to control the final image with effective cropping; 6. demonstrate the ability to produce an effective visual image regardless of the original subject matter or shooting conditions; 7. explore the differences in composition based on color and composition based on line, form, value, etc. Course Content: 1. Advanced depth of field controls c. Advanced stop action control 3. Visual Literacy a. "Reading" the composition of a photography b. Selecting the most effective composition for a given subject c. Composing "full frame" d. Effective cropping techniques e. The Photo Essay - special problems f. Differences in "seeing" compositions in color and B & W Methods of Presentation: 1. Lecture with the use of extensive visual aids 2.
