Chabot College February 1999 Course Outline for Physical Education 2 SELF-DEFENSE TACTICS Catalog Description: PHED 2ST – Self-Defense Tactics 1 unit This course is designed to acquaint the beginning student with basic forms of self-defense. It specifically aims at improving confidence, through physical knowledge, and mental discipline of students. Prerequisites: Student should have a background in one of the following activities: Tumbling, Gymnastics, or previous self-defense. The class will meet 3 hours per week. Prerequisite Skills: Student should have a background in one of the following activities: Tumbling, Gymnastics, or previous self-defense. Expected Outcomes for the Students: This course is designed to acquaint the beginning student with basic forms of self-defense. It specifically aims at improving confidence, through physical knowledge, and mental discipline of students. Course Content: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. The common sense of self-defense. Strategies for self-defense. Personal safety. Techniques and tactics of self-defense. Weapons defense. Danger awareness. Rape prevention. Conditioning for self-defense. Methods of Presentation: The materials for this course will be presented through verbal explanation, demonstrations, class drills, and individual corrections and practice. Maximum time will be allotted to student practice. Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress: Each student will be evaluated in terms of the expected proficiency in self-defense. Each one must demonstrate sufficient mastery of the specific skills covered in the course. Each must show satisfactory attendance throughout the duration of the course.
