CENTRE WELLINGTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL Course Assessment and Evaluation Plan Healthy Active Living Education Grade / Academic Level: 10 Course Code: PAF 20F Head of Department: P. McFarlane Course Description: This course emphasizes regular participation in various enjoyable non-traditional activities to promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will be encouraged to develop personal competence through aerobics, fitness and weight training, dance, self-defense, orienteering, outdoor fitness, badminton, tennis, and other recreational activities. Students will also study the components of nutrition, diet analysis, stress management and relaxation. Students will also develop personal strategies to deal effectively with relationships, sexuality, violence, and substance abuse through reports, guest speakers, and labs. * The students in this course will have the opportunity to participate in self defense, yoga, cheerleading, dance, as well as off-campus activities such as swimming and skating which will provide an excellent enhancement of our course of study. The cost will be $50. Prerequisites: None Where the Course Leads: PPL 3O, PPZ 3O, PAD 3O PPL 4O, PLF 4C, PSE 4U Units of Study: Yoga, Outdoor Activities, Dance, Healthy Living, Aerobics, Self-defense, Weight Training, Games of Low Organization, Gymnastics, Cheerleading, Swimming, Skating Assessment and Evaluation Teachers measure student achievement using level one to four on these achievement categories: Knowledge/Understanding 14% Thinking/Inquiry 7% Communication 7% Application 42% Culminating Assignment 30% 70% of the grade is based on evaluations taken throughout the course. They may be in the form of oral/written tests, performance tests, essays, learning logs, conferences, or projects/presentations. 30% of the grade is based on a final evaluation administered at the end of each unit. The evaluation may take the form of an exam, a performance task, a presentation, an essay, a portfolio, or any other method of evaluation suitable to the course content and expectations. There are no exceptions as it is considered essential. In every unit there will be at least one essential summative evaluation that must be submitted as well as minor assignments. If an assignment is not completed by the due date, students will have to complete the task on demand during class time or during lunch. An evaluation will be based on the work completed at this time.
