Chabot College June, 1989 Course Outline for Physical Education 1 ELEMENTARY TABLE TENNIS Catalog Description: PHED 1TT – Elementary Table Tennis 0.5 unit This course should provide the beginning student with an opportunity to acquire basic and fundamental skills in table tennis. An adequate level of physical fitness should be achieved through participation in the course. An important aim of the class will be to create and promote interest in table tennis as a leisure time activity. The class will meet 2 hours per week. Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcomes for the Students: This course should provide the beginning student with an opportunity to acquire basic and fundamental skills in table tennis. An adequate level of physical fitness should be achieved through participation in the course. An important aim of the class will be to create and promote interest in table tennis as a leisure time activity. Course Content: 1. History of table tennis. 2. Description and use of equipment. 3. Explanation, demonstration, and practice of specific skills related to the activity: a. Backhand push shot b. Forehand push shot c. Service d. Backhand drive e. Forehand drive f. Top spin and chop 4. Singles and doubles play. 5. Rules of the game. 6. Class competition. Methods of Presentation: The content of the course will be presented primarily through the lecture- demonstration method. Instruction will be given by both the group method and on an individual basis.
