Chabot College September 1995 Course Outline for Physical Education 1 TOURNAMENT BADMINTON Catalog Description: PHED 1BDT – Tournament Badminton 0.5 unit This course is designed to provide a competitive experience for students who possess basic badminton skills. Tournaments will be administered each class meeting. The class will meet 2 hours per week. Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcomes for the Students: A student should be able to maintain or improve his physical condition through big muscle activity. He should understand the components, and be able to execute satisfactorily, the basic skills in the game of badminton and should be able to understand the rules and strategy necessary to play the game effectively. The student should appreciate the benefits of exercise, and with the skills and knowledge of the activity, develop some interest in it as a possible carry-over activity for future participation. He should also understand and appreciate socially acceptable conduct in a coeducational situation and in competitive play. Course Content: 1. Description and use of equipment. 2. Review Basic Skills a. Clear b. Drive c. Drop shot d. Smash e. Service (singles and doubles) 3. Basic singles and doubles strategy. 4. Tournament competition. Methods of Presentation: The content of the course will be presented primarily through the lecture- demonstration method. Instruction will be given by both the group method and on an individual basis. Student practice will take place also in groups and individually. Student discussions will be used to review the course content. Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress: Each student will be evaluated by the following criteria: 1. Satisfactory attendance and active participation in the activity. 2. Written examination on specific materials related to the course. 3.
