Chabot College/Las Positas College February, 1994 Course Outline for Electronics Technology 81 AUDIO SYSTEMS Catalog Description: 81 - Audio Systems - 4 units (May be repeated three times) Audio electronics systems; broadcasting of audio, including stereo; design of receivers for broadcast audio; and storage media for audio, including tape recording, vinyl records, and compact discs. Prerequisite: Electronics Technology 62A. 3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory. Basic audio, conversion of sound to electrical signals Basic amplification and conversion back to sound Basic AM broadcasting and reception Basic FM broadcasting and reception Subcarriers; FM and TV stereo sound The phonograph record Basics of magnetic tape recording Analog tape recorders Digital storage of audio; the compact disc and digital tape recording Methods of Presentation: Lecture/discussion; testing and troubleshooting demonstrations; chalkboard and other visual presentations; "hands-on" experience in the laboratory building and testing circuits, audio receivers, and recorders. Methods of Evaluating Student Progress: Assigned homework; graded lab projects; general evaluation of student's progress in understanding and involvement in doing laboratory assignments; graded quizzes and/or midterm examination; graded final examination.
