Chabot College/Las Positas College January 1993 Course Outline for Automotive Technology 65 AUTOMOTIVE BRAKE AND SAFETY INSPECTION Catalog Description: 65 - Automotive Brake and Safety Inspection (May be repeated three times) 3 units Diagnosis, inspection, adjustment, and repair of safety equipment, braking and anti-lock braking systems and devices. Includes the material on the California Brake Adjuster's Licensing Examination. Strongly recommended: Automotive Technology 50, 55 or 60A or equivalent. 1.5 hours lecture, 5 hours laboratory. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. describe the fundamentals and theory of automotive brake, anti-lock brake and safety systems; 2. apply these principles to brake and safety systems; 3. evaluate the material on the California Brake Adjuster's licensing examination; 4. pass the Brake Adjuster's licensing exam material with a minimum score of 70%; 5. use basic testing and diagnostic tools and equipment in the inspection, diagnosis and repair of automotive braking systems. Course Content: 1. Bureau of Automotive Repair requirements 2. Operating principles and design of air, hydraulic, vacuum and anti-lock braking systems 3. Laboratory practice in the inspection, diagnosis, adjustment and repair of automotive braking systems 4. Brake mountings, friction materials, drum and disc surfaces 5. Power drum and disc braking systems 6.
