August 26, 2010 12 Noon, Room 405 In Attendance: See sign-in sheet Meeting Minutes: were distributed Special Reports: A. B1200/1300 PAC Plaza – Doug welcomed all to the meeting and introduced Patti and Sheri of bfgc Architects who went through external and internal design components of the project. Preliminary remarks included how the user group had made key decisions for the SOTA upgrade based on prioritizing needs within the finite budget. Major improvements at this time are focused on B1200, and Plaza designs that can be incorporated into future remodeling efforts. Celia had a question that focused on how the upgrades of buildings would look when contrasted with the external appearance of the older buildings. The design has made an effort to blend older structures with the new. The designers were reminded that they are required to provide an exterior improvement to the building as part of the project. B. B300 – Doug provided a brief historical overview on how this project was DSA approved and then put “on-hold” because the college had to wait for a semester during which the loss of B300 classrooms would not disrupt the ability to offer a schedule of classes. During the construction launch waiting period, factors (No need for Media Director Office, need for larger classrooms) have driven design changes. Gene of HMC Architects shared drawings of the current revised design. Questions included: Monica, “noise isolation for small learning/testing rooms” answer, double glazed glass. Gordon, “has infrastructure to support added computer classrooms been addressed” answer, meetings to cover topic with Mike Seaton and others will precede bid and construction. Marcia, “design of rooms will be flexible in order to support multi-discipline use”. Mike, “will tablet arm chairs be of older (nearly useless) design” answer, User groups will reopen discussions with Dovetail regarding furniture choices. Chabot College Facilities and Sustainability Committee Minutes Page 2 C. Master Signage Program - Brent & Ron of Hanzal-Morris presented a history and current status of the project that is now at the “launch” stage for an entire campus upgrade to two main areas: 1) Building and location signage and 2) “way-finding” or improving navigation around the campus. Questions & comments: Tom, “college web site, maps, and other publications will rely on an accurate field study from this project for details concerning signage”. Gordon, “to the best of our ability we should factor in design elements that might reduce the costs associated with future signage changes”. Doug/Tom, “Processes will be developed for user groups to define changes in names and other details prior to bid and fabrication”. Ashley, “Will we be able to bring logic to Building numbering” answer, Doug, no, other user groups have tried and there is too much complexity and collateral damage/work/cost if the current Building numbers are changed. Project Status Update: was distributed – no major changes since August 17. Rumor Control: None indicated Other Matters Initiated: None Next meeting: Room 405, September 9, 2010 Chabot College
