Centennial Honors College Western Illinois University Undergraduate Research Day 2012 Poster Presentation From Couch to Cure Sadie Keefauver Faculty Mentor: Mary Jensen Special Education Once a person has become accustomed to a behavior, the habit is hard to break, especially for a student with a disability. From a teacher perspective, developing a plan to help the student overcome a problem behavior and reaching a target behavior is challenging. Getting a person to change a habit can take time and even trial and errors of different approaches. Over a period of three months, I have tracked a particular target behavior of my own. This is to help me see what it takes to transform a behavior from a general perspective My goal is to go from not exercising at all to being able to run the 5K for the Race for the Cure this May. I have based my exercise training on the schedule “Couch to 5k”. This means following an interval training three (3) days a week for thirty minutes each day. My poster presentation will present a week-by-week display of my behavior and how I have succeeded at changing my behavior. It will also include what has helped me to change my behavior. To add to the display of my motivation, some facts about the Race for the Cure will be included. Overall, the poster is to show the results of a behavior management plan.
