Schindler Renovation Update CAFE November 2015 As Thanksgiving and cold weather approaches, it is time to think about food! Our renovated building will be a place where we will be able to suggest to a colleague, “Why don’t we meet at Schindler for lunch?” Recently, I met with Carol Petersen, Director of UNI’s Dining Services. After meeting with our architects, designers, and facilities staff Spring semester, and then working with a food service design specialist over the summer, the plans for Schindler’s new cafe are ready. The plans are bigger than I thought they would be, and that is great news for us! GMP Going well beyond the scope of the old “Apple Cart”, the cafe will also be open for breakfast, serving bakery items - including low-cost “comfort food” like toast made from freshly baked bread. The plans include a full-service Coffee Bar with espressos and lattes with beans supplied by our local Sidecar Coffee company. FOODSERVICE EQUIPMENT PLAN AND SCHEDULE < LEVEL Daily “hot” entrees, soups, and freshly made salads will be served for lunch. Plans are for the cafe to remain open beyond lunch for afternoon refreshments and snacks. Our new light-filled Schindler G.R.E.A.T. room will be a UNI destination for dining and meeting - tables overlooking the “green roof” of the Heartland Terrace will likely be the most sought-after. I told Carol we have a very resourceful group of faculty and staff who could come up with something appropriate, and that I would be very willing to assemble a list of your ideas, so please send your naming ideas my way at: rick.knivsland @uni.edu!
