Mostofthestudentsenrolledinthecourseincorporatetechnicalwritingintotheirdaily
lives.Becauseofthis,themajorityofmystudentswerealreadyfamiliarwithcreating
technicalreports.Student’sgrammarissueswerequicklyremediedbydiscussingtheir
workduringofficehours,providingweeklyassignmentstohelpthempracticetheir
writing,andifneededrecommendingtheyenrollintoandESLorGrammarcourse.

Thestudent’sexperienceintheirfieldsaswellastheneedforthemtolearnterminology
inthecoursesdedicatedtotheirfieldshelpedthestudentsgatherthelanguageneeded
tocreateclearandprofessionalreports.However,theirabilitytointerpretdataand
informationpresentedtothemwasabitmorelabored.Oncetheyappliedthe
informationordatatotheirfield,itbecameeasiertodevelopthisskill.

Theclasswascomprisedofindividualsindifferentfields.Theywerealsoatdifferent
readingandwritinglevels.Studentswereabletofindafocushowevertheyoftenlacked
thecriticalthinkingskillstofindanargumentandgathersupportforanargument.For
manyofthem,thiswasthefirsttimetheywereaskedtobreakafocusapartandcreate
meaningfromthosemultipleparts.Itwasalsoformanyofthemthefirsttimetheywere
askedtosynthesizeandcreateconclusionsfrommultiplesources.
