courseleveledsostudentscanreallystrengthentheirleadershipskills.Second,theclasshas
developedapowerfulstructurewhichinvolvesstudentsparticipatingincommitteesto
achievethegoalsoftheclassandprogram.Finally,studentshavedevelopedleadership
valuessuchasempathyandaltruism,tobeevaluateduponrelatedtoourcourselevel
outcomes.

workingoninterpersonalandpracticallifeskills.Wealsofeelitisimportantforteachers
andpeeradvisorswhoareworkinginGNST5tokeeplinesofcommunicationopenwith
themorereticentmembersoftheclass.Itmaytakethemawhilelongertobegintobe
abletoexpressandshareideasabouttheirgoalsandintendedpath.
Weseewanttohonorstudents’desirestohaveasyllabusthatisbothstructuredand
opentochangetomeettheneedsofaparticularcohortofstudents.

classisablendofdifferentlevelsofexperience,combiningGNST32andafewTUTR
courseswithit,makingitdifficulttoassess.Thestructureoftheclassalsomayneed
moretimeforacademicexploration,astheclasshasahighlabelementtoit.Thislab
mayworkbetterasalabcomponentwithalectureclassattachedtoitinorderto
expandthebreadthanddepthofthepedagogyofleadership.

ThroughtheplanningandorganizingofCIN!events,studentsbecameawareofwhatwas
necessaryinthepreparationandrunningofsocialjusticeworkshops,teach-ins,and
forums.Theywereabletoanalyzeandconstructsuccessfuleventsbasedonin-class
learning,peertopeerlearningandcollaboration,andleadershipfromtheinstructor.
Afterevents,studentswereabletodissectwhatwentwellandwhatneeded
improvement,andthenanalyzeandimplementsolutionstobetterthenextevent.
Typicallythisinvolvedmorepreparationtime,bettergroupcommunicationskills,and
morepracticetimeforevents.Studentswerealsoabletoascertainaudienceneedsand
constructeventsbasedontheiranalysisofthoseaudienceneeds.

justicethemedevents.Webelievethattheclassworkswellasalab,enablingstudentsto
prepare,practice,andworktowardstheirevents.Theclassalsoallowsforgroup
communicationbetweenthestudents,whomustnotonlyplaneventsbutconflictmanage
andsuccessfullyinteractwithotherstudents.However,combiningthiscoursewithan
lecturecomponentandscaffoldingitproperlymaybeofusetothestudents.Thiswould
