Justification:
Why is this position necessary?
This submission seeks to fill the position for primarily Transfer Services as that is the program that has
not had any classified professional expertise in the Center since the resignation of the Career Transfer
Specialist in 2012.
The Career Services Employment Coordinator resigned in June 2015. The TAACCCT grant which has
staffed the Career Services side of the Career & Transfer Center is ending in March 2016 so it is
unclear and further discussion may be needed as to how the Career Services side of the center may
need to be restaffed.
What educational programs or institutional purposes does this position support? How does the request
relate specifically to your Program Review, the College’s Strategic Plan, and/or Accreditation Recommendations?
With a Transfer Counselor to partner with, the hope is that the incumbent can oversee the day-to-day

should be able to stop by the Transfer Center and obtain transfer information and resources and pull
from appropriate bins or folders and retrieve viewbooks and resource sheets about various
pre-professional programs, "What Can I Do With a Major In...?", etc.. With eight months of the year
being potential transfer application months, students should be able to obtain assistance with
applications and schedule appointments with university representatives, sign-up for campus trips, or
seek assistance with items pertaining to transitioning to the university such as document deadlines,
etc..
The Center is then, “hub” for transfer activities and the framework by which it envisions itself is
informed by "The California Community College Transfer Center: Recommended Guidelines", a joint
publication of the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and the California Community
Where will the individual work? To whom will the person report? Are there any special equipment/facilities needs
to be considered?
The individual would have an office in the Career & Transfer Center and serve as primary contact for
the Center's facilities. The person would report to the Dean of Counseling and work closely with the
Transfer Counselor. The Career & Transfer Center has 20+ computer labs so part of this person's
responsibilities would be to oversee the routine maintenance of the center's computers.
What is the consequence of not funding this position?
When students visit the Career & Transfer Center seeking information or help with transfer, student
assistants can hand them a flyer with a schedule of workshops, but that is basically it. With lots of
student employee turnover, they aren't trained to tease out the nuances and situations. There is a
need for a trained professional who can engage with students and address their inquiries for
information about university transfer and make referrals to counseling or other areas, as appropriate.
What alternative approaches have been considered in meeting the programmatic demands of this request?
None. The Transfer Counselor was hired in Fall 2014. Along with her duties, she is in the beginnings
of reestablishing the Transfer side of the Career & Transfer Center. In Spring 2015, a half-time
Counseling Assistant II began providing support for the Transfer Center.
How will the campus community (students, staff, faculty, and community) be positively impacted by filling this
position?
In filling this position, the campus community will likely experience:
*Timely assistance with transfer questions that do not need to be addressed through a counseling
appointment
*Increase transfer acceptance rates as incumbent will provide direct student assistance with admission
applications.
*More capacity to host university representative visits on campus, which means more opportunities for
students to make connections or check-in with the admissions counselor about their progress toward
What
other personnel currently provide support to this program and these students?
transfer
*Offerings of more information sessions or webinars that help students learn about and make transfer

more of a reality for the student
We have a half-time Counseling Assistant II providing clerical support for Transfer Services.
*Possible opportunities to sign up for campus visit trips
*Timely and targeted communication of transfer services and transfer opportunities to campus
community.
