Next Generation Rail research and skills showcase draws in top career
talent
Graduates, apprentices and early-career researchers are set to gather at the fourth Next
Generation Rail conference in Northampton this summer.
The unique event combines site visits, interactive workshops, networking and team-building,
bringing together graduates and apprentices from industry and early-career researchers and
PhD students working on rail projects in academia. This year’s conference theme is
Innovation, Creativity and Research, which will also see awards for the Best Presentation, Best
Poster and Innovation competition.
Organised by rail industry body RSSB as part of a long term collaboration with academia
through the Rail Research UK Association (RRUKA), and supported by Young Rail Professionals,
NSAR and various Professional Institutions (IET, IMechE, PWI, CILT etc.), the conference is the
headline of RailWeek, a week long programme of events and outreach activities celebrating all
that is great about rail.
RailWeek aims to show how rail works and the careers that it offers, feeding the skills agenda
and putting rail into the hearts and minds of young people across the UK.
RSSB spokesperson and RRUKA Co-Chair Luisa Moisio said: “Next Generation Rail is a fantastic
opportunity for young rail professionals and researchers. Through an exciting programme of
exercises and activities, people come away having developed and enhanced transferable skills
such as leadership, creativity and problem solving, and learn how to best put them in practice
in their daily job. It’s also a great chance to meet and build relationships with like-minded
professionals and researchers early in their career.”
Next Generation Rail takes place at NTAR, Northampton 29 June – 1 July, and more detail can
