Office Hours: Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and other times by appointment.
Tutoring Center: The Math Tutoring Center, located in the Rushing Student Center (between LCB and
JWB), offers free drop-in math tutoring Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and
Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Prerequisite: Math ACT score of 23 or a grade of C or better in MATH 1010
Text: Mathematical Applications for the Management, Life, and Social Sciences, Volume 1, by
Harshbarger & Reynolds (custom eighth edition for the U of U)
Grading Scale:

Grading: The course grade will be based on the following:
Homework 40%
Quizzes
30%
Final Exam 30%
Homework: Homework will be due twice a week. Assignments will be posted on the class website.
Problems must be done on 8.5” by 11” paper in the order assigned. Assignments are due by the
end of class on the due date. Late homework will not be accepted. If no work is shown, there
may be no credit given. Illegible homework will receive no credit. Staple multiple page
assignments and tear off rough edges before handing in homework.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be given every Friday at the end of class. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped.
Final Exams: The final exam will be given on Wednesday, June 24 from 9-11 a.m. It will cover
material from the entirety of this course. No make-up exams will be given. If you are unable to
make it to the appointed time for the final exam, you must let me know as early as possible so you
can take the exam before the test date.
Calculators: You are allowed to use calculators for homework, exams, and some quizzes. Calculators
on cellular phones, blackberries, PDAs, and other devices with transmitters will not be permitted
for exams and quizzes. Sharing calculators is not allowed during exams and quizzes.
Attendance policy: Attendance will not be taken. However, it is your responsibility to stay up-to-date
on the material covered in class and to learn of any announcements given, as you will be held
responsible for them.
