COLLEGE OF BUSINESS Curriculum Committee February 22, 2005 2:00 p.m. 2004-05 #9 Present W. Tallon (chair), D. Sinason, D. Docking, S. Marsh, C. DeMoranville, G. Aase, A. Farraj, L. Suwalski, L. Marcellus, M. Salmon Action on Minutes Minutes from the Eighth Meeting, dated February 8, 2005, were approved as presented. ACCY 310 The committee approved Accountancy’s request to separate the lecture and lab in ACCY 310 (currently a four-hour course). This results in a three-hour lecture (ACCY 310A) and a one-hour lab (ACCY 310S). (See pages 1-2 of 3) OMIS 310X As a result of the change in ACCY 310, the committee approved the OMIS Department proposal to delete OMIS 310X. The necessity of crosslisting the course in the OMIS Department no longer exists. (See page 3 of 3) MKTG Items Revisions to graduate marketing courses were approved. (See pages 2-3 of 3) Continuation of Retention Policies It was brought to the committee’s attention that the Marketing Department (at its February 8, 2005 curriculum committee meeting) reviewed its retention policy in compliance with Program Review mandate. Based on current resources and effectiveness of the retention policy, the department unanimously approved continuing its retention requirements. Likewise, the Department of Finance (at its January 6, 2005 curriculum committee meeting) endorsed the continuation of the limited retention policies for the finance major. Academic Compliance/ Athletics An update was provided regarding compliance requirements with respect to athletes. Faculty/staff members seeking additional information on this topic are encouraged to contact the Athletics Department Compliance Officer. Rationale: Currently ACCY 310 is taught as a four hour class that consists of three hours of lecture and one hour of lab. This proposal breaks the lab into a separate course. This configuration: 1) Provides more focus of educational directives (lecture time was often used to cover lab questions); 2) Allows for independent evaluation of lecture material in ACCY 310A and skills and techniques in ACCY 310S which better reflects educational objectives of the curriculum; 3) Provides more consistency in lab material (a lab coordinator will be assigned to ensure consistency of material); 4) Provides more flexibility of registration for students (students may sign up for any combination of lab and lecture. Currently lectures are tied to specific labs). Additionally, course copy was modified to reflect changes in course material. Topics include sales organizational structures and supervision of the recruiting, selecting, testing, training, and managing of salespersons. Emphasis on policy considerations at the field sales manager, sales director, and vice president level. PRQ: MKTG 505 or consent of department. Rationale: This copy more accurately reflects the focus of the course. There are many issues in the course that are pertinent to first level field sales managers. Department of Operations Management and Information Systems Course deletion: Page 83, 2004-2005 Undergraduate Catalog 310X. ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEMS (4). Rationale: Changes in the crosslisted ACCY course (ACCY 310) eliminate the necessity of crosslisting the course in the OMIS Department.
