Committee Orientation The committee reviewed and updated the contents of the Curriculum Handbook which includes the tentative meeting schedule for the year, the mission and scope of duties of the committee, guidelines for curricular revisions, and the assurance of learning process and assessments for 2013-14. The Assurance of Learning Team meetings will be held on the Tuesdays College Curriculum doesn’t meet, with representatives from each department. October 25 was announced as the catalog deadline. AACSB Visit The AACSB Peer Review Team visit will be January 26-28, 2014. The College Curriculum Committee, together with the AOL Team, will meet with the team on January 27. Future Agenda Items Members reported anticipated curricular items to come before the committee this year. Double Majors in Business Although the college has a policy of not promoting double majors in business, the committee felt catalog language stating this was not necessary at this time. Interactive Marketing Area of Study The committee approved a revision to the Interactive Marketing area of study, deleting MKTG 443. This course is already a required course for all marketing majors. (See page 2 of 2) Professional MBA A name change from professional MBA to one-year MBA was approved by the committee. Individuals considering an MBA find the term professional unclear in that they think the program is only for a professional (e.g., doctor, lawyer, etc.), whereas the term one-year is not associated with a specific profession and better defines the delivery format of the program. (See page 1 of 2) Global Articulation Initiative The committee discussed a proposal to allow adoption of credits from partner international universities. Partnering programs at NIU would be able to accept the completed international transfer curriculum as the equivalent of the lower division general education requirements for a baccalaureate degree. This discussion will continue at a future meeting. Career Compass Due to programmatic changes in UBUS 100, Career Compass, an update to the course description was approved. This change affects the wording in the prerequisite for UBUS 310, which was also approved by the committee. (See page 1 of 2) Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 2:55 p.m. Minutes approved: September 24, 2013________ _________________________________________ Charles Petersen, Assistant Faculty Chair/Secretary CP:cw
