SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Notes
7/02/09
-
Summary: A GO science proposal and a SMOV alignment proposal failed because of
guidestar acquisitions failures during the night. The 486 ACR for MEB Reset is being readied
for implementation today after an ops briefing following this meeting; it will enable the
resumption of COS/ACS MAMA operations next week and STIS MAMA operations the
following week. A secondary mirror move is being proposed prior to SMS201 (July 30) to
achieve confocality and optimum focus for WFC3, ACS, and COS. Yesterday, the ACS was
successfully recovered from Suspend to Operate; ACS SMOV operations will resume next
week.
- Observatory Status
o
PCS/SAC
 Six guidestar reacquisition failures during the night (HSTAR 11909)
 failures were due to a timing problem in the guide star acquisitions in
which the Type 3 (Moving Target) slews were picking up the pointer
before the acquisition has had time to finish.
 The next acquisition also failed
o “search radius exceeded” error
o Because gyro biases could not be updated soon enough
 The reacq at 183/1246 UT succeeded after a realtime OBAD update
o SMOV timeline resumes
o Kudos to the FOT
 Two external observations were affected
o GO science observation using the STIS CCD (GO Proposal
12004)
o SMOV proposal 11434 V1 (WFC3 UVIS Fine Alignment)
 It was agreed during the meeting that this visit will
be copied and added into next week’s SMS187
 For more details, see the attached SMOV-OTA-July-2
