“WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SAY I BELIEVE?”
To register for these chats, please phone the
rectory during regular hours (617-552-6102) and
leave your name and some contact information.
These informal conversations will take place by
the fireside at the pastor’s manse (130 Beacon
Street). There will be two chats on alternating
Wednesday evenings (October 24th and
November 7th) beginning at 7:15 and going until
about 8:45 pm. Both Fr. Bob and J.A. Loftus will
accompany the group conversation.
Excerpts from two recent books will focus the
conversation. They are Joan Chittister’s In
Search of Belief (Ligouri/Triumph, 2006, [Revised
edition]), and Timothy Radcliffe’s What is the
Point of Being Christian (Continuum, 2006).
Copies of selected chapters will be available at
the Rectory on Sunday, October 21st.

books are interesting and worth reading in their
entirety; they are both available through
SUNDAY MORNING ADULT FAITH FORUM
All are invited to join in conversation with our
presiders and other members of the St. Ignatius
Community every Sunday following the 10:00
am Liturgy. Beginning today, October 21st, there
will be an opportunity to share reflections on the
Scriptures, homilies, or other topics of interest in
our on-going Faith journey. Please join us for
this time, so that we may continue to grow
together in our call to know, love and serve God
and our neighbor.
PARKING
PARKING AT ST. IGNATIUS - Please note that we are permitted to use the parking spaces
adjacent to Williams Hall on Sundays and holydays when BC is not in session. The entrance
to the parking area is the very first right on Lake St, across Commonwealth Ave. Williams
Hall is the first building on the right.
PARKING SPACES behind the Church are reserved for staff who need to have access
and egress on Sunday morning. Also, space is needed for emergency vehicles and the
handicapped.

What the justice tradition of the Church and recent pastoral letters of the US Bishops have to say about
the dignity and rights of migrants, the unity of families, national security and border control.
Speaker: Sr. Marie Prefontaine, SND, a distinguished educator in the field of migration theology and
pastoral care, has directed offices of immigrant and refugee ethnic ministries in both the Archdiocese of
Boston and the Diocese of Worcester. Sr. Marie has also served the USCCB in its Office of Pastoral Care
of Migrants and Refugees.

Que enseña nuestra fe con respecto a la cuestión
compleja de la inmigración? Cual es la realidad

Que quiere decir ser “indocumentado” or
“residente legal” bajo las leyes actuales.
Comenzaremos nuestra conversación sobre la
ensenañza católica de los derechos de los
inmigrantes así como las responsabilidades de
los paises con las historias de las escrituras y las
de los inmigrantes que viven entre nosotros.
Vengan a eschuchar lo que aquellos que han
conocido el exilio, desde los tiempos de
Abrahám hasta el presente, tienen que decir
sobre la dignidad, la familia, los derechos
humanas. Acompañemos para la primera
reunion de nuestra serie de presentadores,
diálogos, empezando el 14 de octubre y

DEMONSTRATION - On Saturday, October 27th, people from all walks of life will gather in 10 sites
around the country for regional demonstrations in support of bringing the Iraq war to an end. The

JAMAICA HELLO! Once again this year, we
are planning a parish trip to Jamaica to work
with our sister parish St. Anne's. The dates are
January 21st-28th. Parishioners are responsible
for their air fare (presently $400) and the cost of
food and lodging (approx. $300).

8:30 to Noon, we will be hosting our 4th Annual
Book Fair in the Lower Church/Friary Room.

In an effort to facilitate conversation for our Gay

OUTREACH MINISTRIES
WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE: Our annual Drive will be October 27th/28th.
This Drive will help the Guests at Shattuck Shelter (both women and men) get
through the cold New England winter. WISH LIST: Winter coats and jackets
(gently used, clean and ready to wear, larger sizes); Sweaters and long sleeve tshirts (L-XXL); Boots (large sizes especially needed); Hats, gloves, scarves; Hand and
foot warmers; Fleece blankets (new or used and clean)
A SPECIAL NEED:
St. Francis House in Boston is blessed to have many student
volunteers during the academic year. However, when students are away from campus,
there a gaps in the volunteering at the day shelter that serves the homeless. There is a
great need for kitchen/dining room volunteers at these times: November 21st-25th;
December 10th-January 13th; and February 29th-March 9th. For more information

FAMILY FAITH FORMATION NEWS
PRE-SCHOOL – Our preschool program will
begin October 28th from 10:00-11:00 in the
Yellow Room (lower level of the rectory). The
format this year will be slightly different; our BC
intern Andrea has come up with some
interesting ideas that we will be sharing with
you shortly!
OUR PERSONAL SAFETY PROGRAM, which
is mandated by the Archdiocese for children in
grades 1-8, needs some assistance. At the
moment, we do NOT have enough teachers for
this program, which meets three times per year
to teach our children about physical and
emotional safety. If you are interested and can
help, please email Amy Chapman as soon as
possible. We are particularly looking for those
who are familiar with mandated reporting laws.
FIRST RECONCILIATION
AND EUCHARIST Parents of students who intend to receive these
sacraments this year should attend an
informational meeting on October 28 at 9am in
the Lannon Chapel. In order to plan effectively,
to keep accurate records, and to maintain
effective communication, we would ask that if
you cannot attend this meeting please be in
touch with our office so that we may supply you
with necessary information.

THE SACRAMENTS
BAPTISM
Adults are baptized at the Easter Vigil as part of the Rites of Christian Initiation for
Adults. Infant and child baptisms are by arrangement.
FIRST EUCHARIST
Preparation occurs in Grade 2 and includes classes, retreat and home instruction.
CONFIRMATION
Our Confirmation program begins in the 9th grade. Students are confirmed in the
Spring of the 10th grade. Young adults who have been catechized but are not yet
confirmed should contact the rectory for an alternative program.
MATRIMONY
Must be registered as a parishioner six months prior to beginning Marriage
arrangements.
RECONCILIATION
Saturdays 3:15 - 3:45 PM Upper Church or by arrangement
ANOINTING OF THE SICK by arrangement.
