Dear Parishioners,

As you read this week’s letter, I will be at our sister parish in Kingston, Jamaica celebrating Eucharist with this parish community that has a long history with our parish and the Jesuit community. I am anxious to meet first hand the members of this parish whom I have heard so much about from their pastor, Fr. Peter McIsaac, S.J. One of the experiences I expect to have is a greater sense of the Catholic community to which we belong. It is so easy to forget that we belong to a universal church which has many different cultural expressions. I also expect to be moved by the ministry of my brother Jesuits who serve the people of Jamaica. As you know, it is our common heritage of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius that motivates us Jesuits to work for the kingdom of God and for the greater Glory of God.

Speaking of “The Greater Glory of God”, I am hoping that you will be able to come to a performance of this dance/theater piece, inspired by the Spiritual Exercises, that I created over 15 years ago. It will take place at another “sister” church, the Church of the Immaculate Conception in the South End, on Saturday evening, March 4 th at 7:30 pm. Coming to the Immaculate for this evening would be a wonderful way for you to begin the season of Lent, as well as a very graced time at the beginning of the Novena of

Grace in honor of St. Francis Xavier on the 500 th anniversary of his birth. I would like to do everything in my power to get as many St. Ignatius parishioners to come to the

South End and the beautiful Church of the Immaculate for an evening of prayer, music and dance, with yours truly as St. Ignatius. I strongly feel that this Novena of Grace during this Jesuit Jubilee year will be a time of extraordinary grace and renewal for our parish and for each of you personally. The reason we are beginning the Novena at the

Immaculate is that is has a long tradition of being the most popular Church in Boston for the Novena. I am told that busses from all over used to line Harrison Avenue bringing hundreds of people from all over the city!

In light of that experience, we will provide bus transportation for you from St.

Ignatius if that would make your attending more convenient. I would ask that you call the rectory (617-552-6102) to let us know if you will be attending the performance and if you would like transportation to the South End.

As I journey to Jamaica to visit St. Anne’s, know that I will hold you all in prayer and deep affection.

Sincerely,

Fr. Bob
