DESCRIPTION:
Works with the Child Welfare Supervisor to identify families who qualify for the
Community Response Program and completes referrals for interested families,
using CPS Family Assessment data. Actively engages families in assessing their
strengths and needs, using the Protective Factor Framework. Must have a
reliable vehicle and must be willing to work at least one evening and one
weekend day each week. Provides services at locations and times convenient to
families served, typically in their homes. Completes standardized developmental
and mental health screenings with children birth to five, actively involving
parents or caregivers in understanding their child’s development, strengths, and
needs. Knowledge of child development is essential. Makes referrals to needed
services and assists parents/caregivers in following through with referrals
(contacting agencies, completing necessary paperwork).
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and requires flexibility to meet the
needs of clients and their families.
This is a Grant funded position until 6/30/16.
*This is a Safety Sensitive position, pre-employment drug test is required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Works with the child welfare supervisor to identify families who qualify for the Community
Response Program and completes Referrals for interested families, using CPS Family
Assessment data.
Actively engages families in assessing their strengths and needs, using the Protective
Factor Framework. Must be able to maintain positive, encouraging relationship with
parents/caregivers who may be facing difficult circumstance.
Provides services at locations and times convenient to families served, typically in their
homes. Must have use of a reliable vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) and must be willing
to work at least one evening and one weekend day each week.
Completes standardized developmental and mental health screenings with children birth to
five, actively involving parents or caregivers in understanding their child’s development,
strengths and needs. Knowledge of child development is essential.
Works the family and involved family supports (formal or informal) to convene Child and
Family Team meetings and develop Family Partnership Agreements.
Develops and maintains a comprehensive list of appropriate community services available
to support families and children in Orange County.
Makes referrals to needed services and assists parents/caregivers in following through with
referrals (contacting agencies, completing necessary paperwork).
Maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies supporting young children
and families in Orange Co
Documents all job-related activities and enters data into database spreadsheet.
In consultation with CPS supervisor, may need to make reports of child abuse or neglect.
Works with language translators as needed.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Social Work
Supervisor, family and children, collaterals, medical and educational professionals, law
enforcement, co-workers and the general public.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge in using office equipment such as computer, printer, scanner, etc.
Skill in using Microsoft Words, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a
Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field (education, psychology, child
development) and one year of relevant community work experience.
Requires possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued
by the State of North Carolina.
