ORANGE COUNTY GOVERNMENT invites applications for the position of: Child Protective Services Supervisor* SALARY: $53,764.00 - $70,932.00 Annually OPENING DATE: 01/29/16 CLOSING DATE: 02/12/16 11:59 PM DESCRIPTION: Social Services is seeking an experienced Child Protective Services Supervisor who will be responsible for organizing, directing, planning, supporting and evaluating the work assigned to a protective services treatment unit. This will include the provision of in-home and foster care services. The successful candidate should possess broad knowledge and experience in child protective services, and have strong assessment/clinical/treatment skills, as well as excellent organizational skills and verbal/written communication skills. Must be able to support professional social work staff in their provision of services to families and children experiencing serious problems, to work collaboratively and cooperatively with the courts, school, community agencies/organizations, the general public, as well as other units within the agency. Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Hours must be flexible to meet work demands. Requires rotating after-hours on-call responsibility. *This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and a pre-employment drug test will be required. Background check required. Instructs, assigns and reviews work, maintains standards, acts on employee problems, appraises employee performance, and recommends new employees, promotions, discipline, termination and salary increases. Consults with staff at weekly individual case staffing and, as needed, as significant developments in cases occur. Reviews all case dictation, including risk assessments, initial case plans, kinship assessments, referrals, court reports, case contacts, etc. Ensures that proper documentation is completed according to state policy guidelines. Assists staff in meetings with difficult clients in dangerous or emergent situations. Supervision Assignments are provided by setting overall objectives and resources available. The employee and supervisor in consultation develop deadlines, projects and work to be done. This classification has full supervisory responsibility. Distinguishing Factors This classification is distinguished from the Social Work Supervisor II classification by the responsibility for supervision of staff providing treatment and immediate response to crisis situations for at-risk children and adults in the most complex cases in the department. Minimum Qualifications Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in social work and at least 3 years of social work or counseling experience including at least 2 years experience in child protective services or a Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of social work or counseling experience at least 2 years experience in child protective services. Experience in a NC DSS as well as completion of required child training is preferred.
