Bob and J.A. have hosted a discussion group for interested members of the parish community. We will continue that tradition starting on Wednesday evening, October 19th, from 7:30 PM to 9 PM. The meetings are held at the Jesuit residence (130 Beacon Street). We will meet for five consecutive Wednesday evenings ending on November 16th. In light of the new translation of the Roman Missal that will be inaugurated in Advent 2011, this year’s book will provide a fascinating and informative history of Eucharistic celebrations in the church from the earliest days down through the centuries to our own time. It is “a rich feast of insight, knowledge, and information about eucharistic history and practice through the centuries” (Professor Teresa Berger, Yale Divinity school). The book is: From Age to Age: How Christians Have Celebrated the Eucharist by Edward Foley (Collegeville MN: Liturgical Press, 2008). Fr. Foley describes in detail the influence of culture, politics, art, architecture, and music on Christian celebrations of the Eucharist, and how in turn, each of those dimensions have been influenced by Christian celebrations. We can promise it will be informative beyond your wildest dreams and have something for everyone to enjoy. It is a large book (almost 400 pages) with plenty of pictures and illustrations on just about every page. One can pick and choose which sections are most interesting to each reader. We will devise a method for all to enjoy this fascinating history. As usual, space is limited. Please contact Betty (ignatius@bc.edu / 617-552-6102) to reserve a space. First come, first served! Contact either Fr. J.A. (Ja.loftus@bc.edu / 552-6115) or Fr. Bob (frvereec@bc.edu / 552-6110) with any questions. The book is available through Amazon.com for $20.00. It may also be available through religious bookstores. 1. This semester, we will be studying the “Spirituality of the Gospels.” This is a new study which we will be doing for the first time. The four gospels of the New Testament provide a rich multi-dimensional portrait of Jesus Christ. Each also maps out a unique spiritual path into life with Him. In “Spirituality of the Gospels”, the modern quest for spiritual fulfillment is met with profound insights from the gospels and the enduring examples from the lives of the saints it has inspired, both the ancient and contemporary. The study begins Tuesday, October 18th at 7:15 pm in the Lannon Chapel. The cost is $21.00, which includes a commentary, study guide and DVD presentation of the study. New members are always welcome.
