Join our parish community—and nearly 14,000 Catholic communities across the United States—in a lifechanging Lenten journey with CRS Rice
Bowl. Pick up your family’s rice bowl from the Outreach table or the Lannon Chapel.
Second Week of Lent: Hungering to Give Back
This week, CRS Rice Bowl takes us to Laos, where Hongkham is using her love of cooking to provide for her family—and feed an entire school. How do we use our passions and gifts for the betterment of those we meet? Visit crsricebowl.org for more about
CRS in Laos.
Focus on Homelessness: We are presently serving a number of folks with no permanent home. This month, we’re working for and with Boston
Health Care for the Homeless Program, Pine
Street Inn Shattuck Shelter, St. Francis House and CRS Rice Bowl. Printed materials detailing the mission of each of the above groups can be found on the Outreach table in the Gathering Space.
Registration is Open for the May 1 Project Bread Walk for
Hunger. Go to www.projectbread.org and link to Walk for Hunger. TEAM IGNATIUS is set up and ready for members. Changes to the Walk include a new route (10 miles instead of 20) and a 5K Run. In this Year of Mercy, you can help feed the hungry in a very concrete way.

If you are a Middle School or High School student you are invited to participate in our summer service opportunities this year. We will be having various projects for different interest and different ages; the projects we offer are situated in Camden New Jersey, Port Au
Prince Haiti, and around Boston. If this is of interest to you and your family, please contact Anabella Morabito at morabian@bc.edu for more information and registration.
Pope Francis is on the road again!
This past week, Pope Francis traveled to Mexico to bring the same spirit of compassion and solidarity that he shared with the
U.S. last September. Included in his visit was a mass at the U.S.-
Mexico border to bring attention to the plight of migrants and refugees in our hemisphere. There are still ways for you to join the Ignatian network in further amplifying Pope Francis' voice and the Gospel call to be people of compassion and solidarity: sign on to Ignatian Solidarity Network's message to Congress calling for legislators to embrace the Pope's call for humane migration policies throughout the hemisphere by going to the ISN webpage at ignatiansolidarity.net or look for copies of the letter in the Gathering Space or Friary Room. If you are interested in working to spread the message of the Pope's visit locally, contact
Susan Stuart.
Diocesan Appeal
Next weekend, the Catholic Appeal will be announced in all parishes throughout the Archdiocese. Please be sure to take home next week’s bulletin, which includes an insert with some helpful information about how the Catholic Appeal directly benefits our parish.
2016 Nativity Spirit Dinner – March 8
Join us for our annual celebration of Nativity Spirit on Tuesday,
March 8, 2016, at BC High. To learn more about sponsoring the event or to reserve your table, please contact Brooke O'Donnell at bodonnell@nativityboston.org or 857-728-0031 x21.
Rite of Sending RCIA Catechumens and Candidates
Last weekend, we celebrated the rite of sending during the 10am
Mass by asking the godparents/sponsors of the following catechumens: Deborah Lovett, Yun Peng-Szatenek, and Yi Zhang
(those who wish to be baptized at the Easter Vigil) and candidates Ryan Brenneman and Amy Moolten (baptized Christians from another faith tradition) if they were truly ready to take this next step.
After hearing them say "yes" to a more intense preparation, they attended the Rite of Election at the Cathedral with the Cardinal and hundreds of others throughout the archdiocese. There, the godparents testified before Cardinal O'Malley that they have seen God at work in the lives of their companions and they are ready to be initiated into the Church. Deborah, Yun and Yi were asked to give their lives to God by giving their names to the
Church for enrollment in the Book of the Elect.
These Elect are those called by God to be his own, to be washed in the waters of Baptism, anointed by the Spirit in Confirmation and nourished by Christ in the Eucharist. Please pray for them during this Lent.
Book Discussion
On Sunday, March 6, there will be a discussion of the book Just
Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson.
According to Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu, "Bryan
Stevenson is America’s young Nelson Mandela, a brilliant lawyer fighting with courage and conviction to guarantee justice for all.
Just Mercy should be read by people of conscience in every civilized country in the world to discover what happens when revenge and retribution replace justice and mercy.” Please join the discussion of this book on March 6 at 11:15 in the parish office.
Little Rock Scripture Study
This semester, the Little Rock Scripture Study Group meets again to study “The Gospel According to Luke” since it is the year of Luke in Cycle C. Marked by the compassion of Jesus, the gospel stories of Luke demonstrate the universal nature of Jesus’ mission. Luke’s focus on God’s faithfulness will encourage you to trust. The study begins on Wednesday, February 24 at 7:15 pm in the Old Choir Room. The cost is $16.00 which includes a commentary, study guide and video presentation of the study.
New members are always welcome. To register, please call John
Dafarra at 781-899-9540.

GodPods: With this Ash Wednesday, we launched a new initiative from Boston College's Church in the 21st Century Center -
"GodPods" - beginning with this season of Lent. After the reflection for Ash Wednesday, seven more will follow weekly - one for each of the six Sundays and then for Easter. Each reflection takes five to six minutes to listen to; however, we encourage you to pause with the built in reflection moments and let your listening merge into a time of prayer and discernment. Enjoy!
To continue receiving the weekly GodPods, on an ongoing basis, send an email to church21@bc.edu or click here (on line version only)
Who are the "Nones"?
Thursday, February 25, 5:30 P.M.
Nancy T. Ammerman
Simboli Hall (9 Lake St.), Room 100, Brighton Campus
Roughly one-third of young adults now say they have no religious affiliation; but who are they and why aren’t they in church? What do they mean when they protest that they are
“spiritual”? This presentation examines the demographic, political, and cultural trends that have expanded the ranks of the unaffiliated, and asks what local communities of faith can do in response. Free of charge and open to the public
Nancy T. Ammerman is professor of the sociology of religion at
Boston University.
A Rebellious Son?
Jesus and His Mother at the Wedding in Cana (John 2)
Adele Reinhartz
Wednesday, March 2, 5:30 P.M.
Corcoran Commons, Heights Room, Chestnut Hill Campus
In the Gospel of John, chapter 2, Jesus, his mother, his brothers, and the disciples are at a wedding in Cana in the Galilee. Inexplicably, the wine runs out while the celebrations are in full swing. When Jesus' mother points out the problem to her son, however, he answers in a surprising way: "Woman, what does this have to do with you and me?" This lecture looks closely at this exchange in the context of Jewish and Greco-Roman norms governing parent-child relationships, and considers its role in the Gospel's overall presentation of Jesus.
Adele Reinhartz is Corcoran Visiting Chair in Christian-Jewish
Relations at Boston College, and professor, Department of Classics and Religious Studies, at the University of Ottawa.

The Ignatian Way in the Year of Mercy
From Advent to Pentecost - A Journey with St. Ignatius of Loyola
El Camino Ignaciano en el Año de la Misericordia,
Del Adviento a Pentecostés - Una Jornada con San
Ignacio de Loyola
Lent, Scripture
Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray.
While he was praying, his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white.
Then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”
After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.
Reflection
The Lenten Journey leads us from the desert to the “high mountain” where Jesus is transfigured in the sight of the disciples. If the temptations reveal the humanity of Jesus and his human vulnerability, the Transfiguration reveals the fullness of the Divine presence within him. Just as there was in the story of the baptism, there is a voice from heaven affirming the identity of Jesus.
This time it is directed to the disciples who are called to “listen” to Jesus, the beloved son.
Cuaresma, Escritura
The Life of Ignatius
In the experience at La Storta, Ignatius saw Christ carrying the
Cross and heard the voice of the Father saying “I want you to accept this person as your servant”. What distinguishes Ignatius’ visions is that they are always “Trinitarian”. The Trinity was always at the center of his spiritual life. As one of his companions said, “He was continually in communication with the divine persons and received from them various gifts…as if the Father imparted his grace through the Son like a channel.
Question for Reflection
The story of the Transfiguration is one that embodies the Ignatian invitation to “know, love and follow” Jesus as his disciples.
Here we come to “know him more intimately as the “beloved”
Son. We are invited to love him more intensely as we hear how loved he is by the Father and invited to “listen” to him so that might follow him more closely.
What does it mean for you to say that you “love” Jesus. What is the nature of your relationship with him as intimate friend? Do you feel that he is worthy of your love and trust and you his?
Video Reflection, For the Greater Glory
As you reflect on this question, you are invited to review For The
Greater Glory, the dance/theater piece on the Spiritual Exercises, created by Fr. Bob. The Transfiguration story including the song You Will Know is found at the 41 minute mark.
