Math 490: Enrichment Reflection
Due: May 3rd (Last day of class)
For this assignment I would like you to read/watch/listen to some form of journalism or
documentary related to the topics in this course and then write a reflection about it.
Examples of things you could reflect on:
• Episodes of “This American Life” related to the financial crisis (listed on the course
website)
• An episode of the “Planet Money” podcast
• The book “The Big Short” by Michael Lewis
• The documentary “Inside Job”
• “Ask a banker” articles (other than the ones already assigned)
Feel free to choose something not on this list, these are just a few that came to mind. It
should be a somewhat long form piece however (not just a short newspaper article for example). If you aren’t sure if something would be appropriate please ask me before you write
your reflection.
Your reflection should include a description of what the piece is about and how it is related
to what we are learning in this course. You should then reflect on what you learned from
the piece and thoughts you had about it.
Your reflection should probably be longer than a page (double spaced) to be thorough enough.
I wouldn’t expect much more than two pages. If you turn in the reflection early I will grade
it and allow you to make corrections at no cost until May 3rd. This assignment will go
toward the “projects” portion of your final grade.
