Mobile, AL 36688-0002 Arts in Education P ROGRAM D IRECTOR Dr. Jeannette Fresne earned degrees in Music Education from The University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, and Arizona State University. Having experiences in Texas and Arizona as an elementary general music teacher and high school choral director, Dr. Fresne taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before joining the faculty of the University of South Alabama in 2002. In addition to arts integration and music education, she researches the area of seven-shape, shape note music. Dr. Fresne conducts workshops and clinics throughout the United States. A SSISTANT P ROGRAM D IRECTOR Dr. Paige Vitulli has earned degrees in Early Childhood and education and Instructional Design and Development. She has taught all academic content areas as an elementary school teacher in Mobile County Public Schools. At the University of South Alabama Dr.Vitulli has been an instructor for literacy courses. She currently teaches Art Education courses for elementary education majors and supervises student teachers. Dr. Vitulli presents research and conducts workshops at various conferences. Learning/teaching through the arts often reaches students who struggle with the more traditional modes of learning, and it supports creativity in the classroom. The intent of Arts in Education is to enhance student learning through the arts. Teachers are not asked to teach dance, music, theatre, or visual arts, but to teach reading, math, writing, science, social studies, and other subjects through the vehicle of the arts. ELIGIBILITY All teachers, principals, and para-professionals! FREE MATERIALS More than $200 worth of books, instruments, CDs, puppets and more provided! FREE TUITION Program costs paid by ACHE, NCLB, and USA. INSERVICE (FLEX) CREDIT Inservice (FLEX) ccredit through SARIC: 48 hours Providing long-term, sustained, high-quality professional development, you will accumulate a total of forty-two inservice hours during multiple sessions. One additional hour of inservice credit is earned each time you are mentored by a presenter.
