QPAC Executive Director Susan Agin noted that QPAC is continuing to build relationships with departments, including business, math, and English through service learning projects that make connections between disciplinary goals and the work at the performing arts centers. Some of these projects have led to internships, which give students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of business entertainment and the arts. Fourteen students participated in the enrichment program for 8-13 year olds. A QPAC fundraiser, New York City’s Rising Stars, is scheduled for Saturday, May 10th. QCC ART GALLERY Faustino Quintanilla, Executive Director of the art gallery, observed that there has been an increase in class visits across many disciplines. Faculty members from Academic Literacy have been particularly active, incorporating gallery exhibits into coursework under a grant by Professor Kitty Batemen. A collaboration with Venture House, a nonprofit organization that provides services for the mentally ill, is on its second year, and the art created by the clients will be featured at the gallery from May 1st to June 30th. The Juried Student Art Exhibit will also open in May, and a photographic essay, “Afghanistan: A Distant War” by Robert Nickelsberg,is scheduled for the summer. CULTURAL CONNECTIONS The blogs created by Professor John Gilleaudeau have continued to be incredibly successful, attracting almost 30,000 page views, and the work from the gallery displayed on Deviant Art has received over 2500 hits. Professor Gilleaudeau contacted Stephen Di Dio, the Executive Director for Communications and Marketing, and Dr. Elizabeth Toohey, the faculty advisor for Communique, to discuss other avenues for promoting the gallery’s work. He has also established cultural liaisons in nine departments and has been working with them regularly over the course of the semester and plans to reach even more departments in the fall. NEW BUSINESS Professor Jodie Childers noted that Baruch and Ahead21 host an annual Arts and Higher Education Conference that might align with the interests of members of the committee. The next conference will be scheduled for the spring of 2015. A gathering will be scheduled in May for all current and new committee members. Cultural liaisons will be invited as well. Dr. Lizzul moved to adjourn the meeting. Several attendees seconded this motion. Minutes recorded by Jodie Childers
