Act to Remove 304.4 and Create 304.4, 304.4.1, 304.4.2, and 304.4.3 of the Student
Government Association Code-of-Laws
BE IT ENACTED BY THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA
Preamble:
WHEREAS, the University of South Alabama Student Government Association
seeks to modernize its operating structure by updating its Code of Laws.
WHEREAS, 304.4 is outdated and needs separation.
WHEREAS, Senate Committee Chair election procedures need to be clarified.
Section 1: Section 304.4 of the University of South Alabama Student Government Association
Code-of-Laws shall be removed and broken up into multiple subsections listed below.
Section 2: Section 304.4 shall be created to read:
“Chairs for the Senate Committees will be nominated at the first Senate meeting and
elected to that position by a majority vote of the Senators present at the second Senate
meeting in the Summer and Fall semesters respectively.”
Section 3: Section 304.4.1 shall be created to read:
“The Summer Committee chairs and their respective committee members shall serve
until the election of the new Senate Committee Chairs in the Fall Semester.”
Section 4: Section 304.4.2 shall be created to read:
“Chairs for the Senate Committees during the Fall semester shall maintain their seats into
the Spring semester unless otherwise noted in the Code-of-Laws.”
Section 5: Section 304.4.3 shall be created to read:
“In the event that the standing Committee Chair’s position becomes vacant during the
previously elected Chair’s term, the Senate shall elect a replacement Chair at the
following Senate meeting.”
Section 6: This act shall take effect March 24, 2015
