Jaguars Reaching Out and Onward Toward Success What is it? A mentoring program to provide students with expertise and resources through our varied experience at USA and in our professional lives. How can faculty and staff get involved? Be a USA Mentor. Support one to two first-year students by: • • Helping them identify potential pitfalls and personal/academic needs early in the first semester; Meeting with them once per month What kind of topics might a mentor discuss during the monthly meeting? • • • • • • • Personal, academic, or professional problems Gaining access to resources How to navigating the university and local community How to achieve academic and/or career goals Identification of opportunities that support academic and/or career goals How to maximize opportunities and resources Just talking: offer general support and encouragement Ultimately, mentors are one of three people supporting the student: You: the Faculty/Staff USA Mentor A JagPal to provide academic support An Ambassador: an upperclassmen to provide social support Become a Faculty/Staff Mentor by contacting: Nicole T.
