PRODUCTDESIGN D R E X E L U N I V E R S I T Y 2 0 1 4 And then there were twelve. Four years ago, sixteen brave students took the ultimate leap of faith and joined an untested design program to become Drexel’s inaugural class of Product Design students. Along the way we lost a few, two students graduated early and two went on to do other things. Today, the remaining twelve vigorous students make their way out in the world at the end of one journey and the start of the next. It is a monumental occasion not just because of being the first graduating class, but because of the sheer level of achievement reached during their four years of joy, tears, sleepless nights, and camaraderie. I can say they made the most of every moment and left nothing unturned. They are in every way a talented and exemplary group of humans. I could not be more proud and more thankful for the commitment they have shown to Drexel University, the Product Design Program, and each other. I know that this book, which they funded and produced themselves, is a shining example of their hard work and achievement. It will stand the test of time and provide the next generation of students a standard to uphold. So, it is with a melancholy heart that I bid the class of 2014 a fond adieu and a bright future. One in twelve Americans is uncertain where their next meal is coming from. Self-sufficiency – making and growing food at home – is an alternative, but the low-income users who stand to benefit from it most are put off by the prohibitive cost of locating information, and psychological barriers to entry. Spoonfull makes self-sufficient behaviors easy to access by placing them right in the neighborhoods where they are needed most. Kits feature a non-intimidating, simplified graphic style, and include one specialized ingredient and one information packet, with the bulk of the recipes using ingredients already commonly available in the home. We could not have come this far in our academic and design careers, or in these projects, without the guidance of the talented design professionals, teachers, and staff here at Drexel University. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Product Design Senior Class 2014 29
