OUTPLACEMENT SERVICES
A library of community, education, and agency resources is
available to each inmate at Pruntytown.
A law library is available as well. Ask your unit team when the
library is open for your housing unit.
Resources aimed at re-entry are provided to all students that
attend Open Gate/After Care class. Information for release
pertaining to a specific resource is provided to students that
submit a request to the Education Office.
This informational brochure is for orientation and
informational purposes only and is not a binding contract
between the Pruntytown Correctional Center School and its
students. The school reserves the right to make changes in
the course offerings, curriculum, graduation requirements,
and academic policies.

records are confidential and maintained in a secure manner. If you
would like to review your file, Other information is provided
following strict policy guidelines following WV State Board Policy
#4350 and PCC DOC policy. Residents may review their education
records upon request

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the West Virginia Department of Education at the
Pruntytown Correctional Center. The classes offered at
Pruntytown are designed to help you learn a skill, get a job, and
make better choices upon your release from prison. The staff at
Pruntytown is dedicated to helping you improve your skills and
prepare you for reintegration into society. We offer nationally
recognized certification programs to assist you in obtaining
meaningful employment.
REGISTERING FOR CLASSES AT PCC
ABE Classes:
If you do not have a High School diploma or GED, you are automatically
enrolled in ABE class. You will be sent a roster informing you when your
class will meet and at what time. ABE classes are open entry and open
exit. Evening classes are offered to accommodate students that work
off grounds during the day. TABE assessments are utilized for proper
ABE placement. An entry, exit and periodic gains exam will be
administered.

IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY EDUCATION CLASS
YOU ARE ASSIGNED TO, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN A
REFUSAL. FAILURE TO ATTEND ABE CLASS CAN RESULT IN LOSING
YOUR JOB, WORK RELEASE, AND/OR A WRITE-UP.

Career & Technical classes:
If you want to take any of these classes, send ONE request to the
Education Office. Priority will be given to inmates that can complete the
class. Inmates that are approved for work release may be asked to
waive their date to complete the class.

Transitional Life Skills
Transition Skills Classes:
If you are recommended to take any class on your IRPP, you will be
placed on a waiting list. Priority is given to inmates that are getting
ready to see the parole board and/or applying for Accelerated Parole.

(TASC test). Only an ABE teacher can recommend you for the TASC
test. The TASC test and ABE classes are offered free of charge.
C TECH: Fiber optic, copper wiring, and network cable program that
gives the student a national certification upon completion.
NCCER Core: The NCCER Core Curriculum is a prerequisite to all other
Level 1 craft curriculum. Its modules cover topics such as Basic Safety,
Communication Skills and Introduction to Construction Drawings.
Completing this curriculum gives the trainee the basic skills needed to
continue education in any craft area.
NCCER Carpentry 1: Certification program for basic carpentry.
Oil & Gas 10 hour certification: Class participants earn a 10 hour
lifetime certification that will help them apply for basic labor jobs on
oil rigs across the country.
EMPLOYMENT READINESS: Life skills curriculum focusing on
employability skills that will help students to find and maintain
employment upon their release from prison.
99 Days & a Get Up: Transition program aimed at helping inmates reenter society.
Computer skills: Beginner and Intermediate skills class offered.
Open Cate/After Care: An education orientation is provided to each
PCC resident shortly after their arrival at the center.
OSHA Construction Safety Certification. Earn the Federal OSHA Safety
10 hour card.
Fork Lift Certification: Is available periodically to 10 hour OSHA
completers that complete the course work and pass the driving test.
Parenting: Parenting program offered in conjuction with KISRA.
College courses: Various courses offered through WV State University.
Contact the Education office for more details.
WorkKeys: a job skills test given in Applied Math, Locating
Information, and Reading for Information. Successful candidates
receive a Gold, Silver, or Bronze certificate signed by the Governor
(Ready to Work certificate).
NOTE: Examination fees must be paid by the student for the 40 hour and 80 hour
mining class
