JOB GOAL
To provide support to students and families with involvement in the Department of Juvenile
Justice system to assist in the promotion of good mental health through time-limited counseling,
community referrals and monitoring of the student’s school progress (including academics and
behavior).
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s Degree in social work or related social services field.
2. Valid Florida certification in school social work; eligibility for certification in school
social work, or state licensure as licensed clinical social worker.
3. Experience working with children with behavioral and emotional disabilities.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with parents.
5. Ability to perform the functions of the position.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of and familiarity with children with behavioral and emotional
disabilities.
2. Excellent communication skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To complete a needs assessment for referred students and develop an
intervention plan to promote good mental health and school success.
2. To attend DJJ Intake meetings and other student related meetings to obtain
information and develop a transition plan for identified students.
3. To provide individual or group counseling for students, as needed.
4. To identify appropriate community and school-based services and initiate
referrals.
5. To communicate with parents regarding services available to meet the mental
health needs of students.
6. To work collaboratively with DJJ staff members and school staff to coordinate
service delivery.
7. To maintain accurate records of activities and report student data, as requested.
8. To attend conferences, community meetings and workshops to improve
counseling skills.
9. To perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Physical Demand Class - Light: (L) Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing 10 pounds
or less. Infrequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing 11-35 pounds. Frequent walking
and/or standing is required to carry out duties.
