Course Description:
This course is designed for students seeking an adult high school diploma through the High School 21
program, students studying for the GED exam, and students seeking educational enrichment. In this
course, students will increase their confidence and ability in writing and reading for academic
purposes, employment, and everyday life. Course content emphasizes the mechanics of writing as well
as strategies to develop and organize complex ideas in writing. The reading component of this course
focuses on interpreting and analyzing a variety of texts, including fiction, nonfiction, and
informational. This course is designed to prepare students for a successful transition to college-level
courses and to develop the behaviors and values relevant to success in higher education and the labor
market. Students who successfully complete this course will earn a High School 21 credit in English.
WAC 180 51-061 CASAS post-test will be given after 45 hours of instruction.
