Schaeffler AG Supervisory Board Member

After completing secondary school, Prof. Dr. Bernd Gottschalk studied economics at universities in Hamburg,

Saarbrücken, and Stanford, California in the U.S. In 1971, he completed his doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) at the

University of Hamburg.

From 1972 to 1996, Prof. Dr. Bernd Gottschalk worked in various areas at Daimler-Benz: In 1982, he was appointed to group management positions in public relations, economic policy, and transport policy at the global level. In 1988, Prof. Dr. Bernd Gottschalk took charge of commercial management of the Mannheim plant, and in 1991 he became President of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil. In 1992, he was appointed as a regular member of the Executive Board for the Commercial Vehicles Business Unit at the global level.

In 1997, he was elected to the office of President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry

(Verband der Automobilindustrie, VDA) and held this position for almost eleven years before being appointed as an honorary member of the VDA.

Prof. Dr. Bernd Gottschalk is the founder and managing partner of AutoValue GmbH in Frankfurt/Main. He was President of the International Organization of Automobile Manufacturers, Paris (Organisation

Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles, OICA), and he was Vice President of the Federal Association of German Industry (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V., BDI) for many years.

Along with his role on the Schaeffler AG Supervisory Board, Prof. Dr. Bernd Gottschalk is a member of the

Supervisory Board and the Remuneration Committee (Comité des Rémunération) of Plastic Omnium S.A.,

Paris, a member of the Supervisory Board of the JOST Group, and the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the

Hay Group and Woco; in addition, he was on the Supervisory Board and Audit Committee and was Vice

Chairman of the Shareholders' and Personnel Committee at Voith AG for 20 years until 2015. On the

Schaeffler AG Supervisory Board, he is part of the Nominating Committee.

In 1999, West Saxon University in Zwickau appointed Prof. Dr. Bernd Gottschalk as an honorary professor. In the area of culture, he is Chairman of the Advisory Board for the International Mozarteum Foundation,

Salzburg, and is on the Board of Trustees for the Stuttgart Gallery Association. He is a recipient of the Federal

Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and of the Grand Golden Badge of Honor for

Services to the Republic of Austria.
