Career Planning – CRDV105-721 Winter Session 2016 Welcome Students! This is Career Planning, a 1-credit course taught online using iLearn, which assists students in identifying and narrowing down career and major options. You will be analyzing your career interests, skills and values in addition to taking your personality style into consideration when you look to plan your future. This section of Career Planning is completely on-line and thus, requires you to work independently. You need to purchase or rent the required text either in hard copy or the online version (which is less expensive). The text should be in the Marist Bookstore by Friday, December 18 or sooner. You can contact them with the phone number below to see if it is in. You will have to write reactions to the chapters and do chapter exercises beginning with the first class. You may have "too many" career ideas and need to narrow them down. Or perhaps you can't think of anything you’d like to do and need to generate options. Wherever you are in the process, the goal in this course is to move you along at a pace that allows you to identify and research your options. The decisions that you need to make may get a little more confusing before they become clearer, but soon you will feel more in control of your future. Some items to pay attention to if you.... …are a Communication major, this is NOT the course required prior to your internship; the course you need is Employment Practicum (CRDV100N); …have never taken an on-line course or a course on iLearn, I strongly recommend that you go through the Student Tutorial and FAQs on the login page on iLearn; …experience technical difficulties using iLearn please consult the FAQs or call the HELP Desk at 575-HELP. I am not equipped with the knowledge to assist you with technical issues; …are a procrastinator, enter reminders about this course and the assignment dates onto your calendar NOW so that you don't forget to do the assignments. Not turning in assignments on time is one of the quickest ways to get into trouble in this course. If you have questions, ask me. I check email several times a day, except on holidays. I will always try to get you what you need to do well in the course because "doing well" means that you are making informed career decisions that are right for you. I'm happy to be a resource for you inside and outside of class. The course iLearn site will be open online by 12 noon on Thursday, December 17. Please review the syllabus to see what the course entails and what will be expected of you. Get to me with any questions you have. Winter Session 2016 officially begins on Saturday, December 19. I hope you enjoy the course and get a lot from it.
