CURRENT RESEARCH
Network modeling of chat reference interactions: In this exploratory research we use network
modeling and word collocation to reveal patterns of patron self-expression and librarian response
in virtual reference interactions. (Principle investigator, co-researcher with a graduate student in
LIS)
Publisher-librarian relations in the STM information marketplace: Interview-based examination
of the relationships and power dynamics in the Scientific, Technical, and Medical information
market. (Solo researcher)
Student, Instructor, and Librarian Evaluations of Chat Reference Transcripts: Reference best
practices have been based on the librarian perspective. In this research, we will conduct surveys
and focus groups with students and instructors in an introductory writing course to understand
their expectations of and reactions to chat reference interactions. (Co-PI with JoAnn Jacoby,
David Ward, and Susan Avery)
