Megan, ‘16 Hometown: West Hartford, CT Transferred to Marist: Fall 2013 Major: Criminal Justice Personal Interests: I like to craft, work out and cook. Often my friends and I will try out a new recipe that we have never made before. I also like to do anything outdoors related, such as hiking. Campus Involvement: I am involved in Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Kappa Gamma Treasurer, Sorority Council Expansion Chair, Greek Council Event Chair, Criminal Justice Club, RHC, Italian Club and Campus Ministry. How I Can Help As Your Peer Mentor (and Former Transfer Student): Having already attended a school, I knew the basic ropes and what to do as a student. The difficulty was learning where everything is and the unique quirks about Marist that an outsider would not. What I Was Nervous About: When I transferred to Marist, I was worried about making friends on campus and connecting with others outside the transfer population. This is because I was living in the Residence Inn and thought it would be very difficult to do so. However, all I really needed to do was get involved at Marist in a variety of new clubs. By doing this, I met many new people who were not transfers. What I Was Excited About: I was excited to get involved in a place that seemed to have so much going on all the time. I was also ready to be challenged academically. This is because I found these two aspects were not sufficient enough for my liking at my previous institution. Advice for an Incoming Transfer Student: Get involved as much as you possible. When you go to the Activities Fair at the being of the semester, sign up for as many clubs that interest you. From there you can narrow down to the clubs that really interest you, and eliminate those you do not have time for. By doing this you can meet other students and broad your friend group even more, rather than narrowing it to just incoming transfers. What is it like to be a transfer student at Marist? At Marist I often forget I even transferred. I have to remind myself that I was not here my freshmen year when people ask me about it. I wish I had gone here as a freshmen, because I am still meeting new people from my class that I feel I would have met or known at least who they are by being a freshmen. “I looking forward to introducing you all to your new home! Have a great summer!”
