Features

SELLATAN HAT liq. is a condensation product of aromatic sulfones.
Charge:
Anionic.
Light-fastness:
Moderate.
Resistance to heat-yellowing:
Very good.
Stability to electrolytes:
Moderate.
Astringency:
Strong, increases as pH decreases to the point where it can produce a
shrunken grain.
Dispersing effect:
Low, due to high astringency and tanning effect.
Effect on leather colour:
Depending on application step, pronounced shade weakening.
Levelling effect:
Good dyeability.
Handling & storage:
Wear goggles and gloves during handling and close containers tightly
afterwards.
Can be stored for about 1 year (from date of production) if kept between
5°C and 50°C. If product becomes frozen, warm to approx. 20°C and stir
before use.

SELLATAN HAT liq. is very suitable for all types of leather requiring
uniformly good fullness, a round handle and a tight compact grain.

SELLATAN HAT liq. combines high tanning capacity with an extremely
low free formaldehyde contribution to the leather.

SELLATAN HAT liq. is a highly concentrated liquid tanning agent, able
to replace similar amounts of conventional powder and granular syntans.
®
SELLATAN HAT liq. imparts a firm and tight grain.
®
SELLATAN HAT liq. is very suitable for preparing nubuck and suede
leathers with a short nap. It also imparts good dyeability and buffability.
®
SELLATAN HAT liq. is very suitable for producing shrunken grain from
pickled skins.

Application

In general, 4 - 6 % SELLATAN HAT liq., (calculated on the shaved
weight), is applied in the retanning stage.
®
SELLATAN HAT liq. can be applied in combination with other retanning
®
agent; for example, to increase penetration SELLATAN HAT liq. can be
®
applied together with dispersing aids such as SELLASOL TN –FF liq.
®
SELLATAN HAT liq. is the ideal product for the production of tight and
compact chrome free leathers for shoe and automotive use.
®
SELLATAN HAT liq. imparts wet blue based shoe upper leather articles
with improved grain tightness and a uniform filling effect; by maintaining a
compact and firm character.
®
To further support grain-tightening and filling, SELLATAN HAT liq. is the
ideal partner for recipes based on the innovative filling polymer,

MAGNOPAL IPF.
For shrunken grain leathers:
®
In general, 15 - 20 % SELLATAN HAT liq. (% calculated on the pelt
weight) is applied after the pickle.
The shrunken grain effect is influenced by several factors, e. g. split
thickness, float length, pH value and of course raw material. In general,
the following rules have to be taken into consideration: for small pointed
pebble-grain – use a short, concentrated bath; for a coarse flat pebble
grain – use a long, dilute bath.
