I. Director of Human Resources (Pam Bowman) – Pam states that Ali Vincent will be the
guest speaker at the Employee Wellness program on August 8th. Thank you Julie for
coming up with the idea for the program. As of our meeting roughly 170 people have
registered.
Goodbyes were said to the 60th Street Campus in the Quad Cities.
The last summer social was August 6th and roughly 60 people attended.
There will be an opportunity to volunteer your time the first two days of classes for the
Fall Semester.

IV. Vice President for Administrative Services Report (Julie DeWees) – Julie states that
an email was recently stating that the approval for purchases has increased from $500 to
$1000.
The new website has launched. If you have any comments or concerns, please email them
to U-Tech.
Move-in this year for freshman was bumped up to Friday, August 22nd starting at 8:00
am.
V. Group Concerns – Heather brought up a sick leave concern. It was stated that all
regulations to the amount of sick leave for non-negotiated employees has to be approved
by the Board of Trustees.
VI. President’s Report (Wendi Mattson) –
Wendi shared the following via e-mail:
WIU received 6.8 million – still owed about 13 million
Nothing new on pensions
Enrollment – we are very close to last year’s numbers. From Fresh – Soph we are at
70.4% retention.
Housing is down 17 from projected number
Recruitment – focus is in the quad cities now. They got us 14 freshman last year. There
will be a new scholarship grid coming out very soon. This will give more money on the
lower end – they found that the more money on the top end didn’t really make a
difference if they chose WIU or not.
St. Louis Office opens on August 12
there will be a ribbon cutting for Thompson Hall, the Union in the near future, the green
house during homecoming.
International students don’t register until late
University 100 sections are full
Grad school numbers are down by 18, they are working with Iowa Wesleyan.
The Quad Cities campus will move from 60th street to the river front location.
Parking lot is started for the new center for performing arts
COAP – professional development conference to be held August 8
There will be a reciprocal agreement with the Moline library
Andrea Henderson – there is a service animal agreement – and believe it or not – a horse
can be considered a service animal.
Book awards were approved.
Parking lot in full swing and is ahead of the game.
VII. Civil Service Employee of the Month (Alisha Barnett) – absent
VIII. Employee Advisory Committee Representative (Peter Skrypkun) - absent
IX. WIU Quad Cities Campus Report (Alison Shook) - The QC 60th street campus is
moving in waves. The first wave has already moved, the 2nd wave moves today, and the
3rd wave will move on the 15th. DPS will be sending out an updated directory for all
faculty/staff working at the QC campus, please make sure to write down their new office
location when mailing information internally.
X. Representative Reports to Council
a. Affirmative Action Internship Committee (Holly Fecht) – no report
b. University Diversity Council (Karen Trusley) – Karen says they will be
deploying the campus climate survey this fall. Please complete and submit
feedback on the survey.
c. Website and IT Issues (Connie Lincoln) – Connie is continuing to update the
website and Heather is volunteering to help assist with any IT issues.
d. Training and Development (Gail Ault) – Gail reminds us of the Employee
Wellness Program that Pam mentioned earlier and also if anyone is interested in
handing out water on the first day of classes there will be a tent sent set up.

b. Awards and Selection (Alison Shook) – award selection will be held next April

e. Fundraising (Karen Trusley) – Sodexho is being pushed at events across
campus, Westernopoly games start on September 2nd,

a. Wendi reminds us that the October meeting will be held in the Quad Cities.
b. Council of Councils Conference will be held on October 17th at SIU-Carbondale.
Cost is $10/person. Theme this year is “A Touch of Southern Hospitality”. Karen
Trusley will be going if anyone else would like to join her.
