Electronic Resources Work Group May 27, 2004 Present: Tina Chrzastowski, Lisa German, Michael Norman, Karen Schmidt, John Weible, Lynn Wiley, Lisa Hinchliffe, Wendy Shelburne Electronic Resource documentation: Tina brought in questions and suggestions for updating the information that had been available previously on the EIRC web page. We made some suggestions on how to streamline and update the forms, including information on backfile purchase, cancellations, and funding. Implementation Team Issues: Tina asked ERWG for some feedback on the work that PSED and LSD are doing to integrate portions of their work and use staff in different ways. One of the areas that invites a lot of integration is the handling of electronic resources, and Tina asked ERWG for feedback on what we need to do to think about organizing e-resource to keep the resources up and running. Lisa G will have her GA conduct a literature search on how other libraries have addressed this. Wendy is working to update the troubleshooting guide and this may be useful to the divisions as well. We also talked about training in e-resource management in general, and recommended that Wendy contact Beth Woodard when the trouble-shooting manual is done so that we can incorporate some of this in training sessions. Cancellation and overlap: We talked about the use statistics for the Wilson databases through IDAL and about possible overlap between print and electronic of these titles. Lisa G is asking a staff member to list all our print subscriptions for these and she and Karen will develop a recommendation to our faculty regarding these titles. We also discussed the information that is available to us via the ORR and how this can aid us in identifying duplicate access and to save some money. JoAnn Jacoby, Cindy Ingold and Wendy Shelburne are working on the review of er14 on behalf of CDC. Karen asked Lisa Hinchliffe to join this group to look at ORR overlap issues. We will ask the ORR team to provide reports from the database for review. ORR news: We talked about problems with browser compatibility and access to ORR. We also talked about the need to have short ORR briefings. Next meeting: to be determined
