TEACHER OF THE YEAR SUMMIT
The NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is currently planning to host its
second annual Teacher of the Year Summit at the Brownstone Doubletree Hotel in
Raleigh on Friday, April 11. In order for this to be a reality, I need your assistance
by supporting your district’s teachers of the year for 2011-12 and 2012-13 by paying
their travel costs (mileage and hotel) and substitute pay for Friday, April 11, 2014.
NCDPI will pay for the hotel meeting space, Friday’s luncheon, and other incidental
meeting costs.
The current year’s North Carolina Teacher of the Year Karyn Dickerson and this
past year’s recipient Darcy Grimes have agreed to co-chair this summit. There are
many concerns related to public education funding, teaching as a profession, and
other pertinent issues that will be the focus of this summit.
At a time when budgets are stretched, I hope that you concur with me that having a
dialogue with our best teachers would be advantageous not only for the state, but for
your district as well. I appreciate your willingness to support this endeavor.
