Overview of “Governor’s Teacher Network” Proposal
(Submitted for approval by US Department of Education, January 2014)

The Governor’s Teacher Network (Network) will select up to 450 outstanding teachers from across the State to serve for one
year supporting implementation of key RttT initiatives (professional development and the implementation of Home Base) in
their schools and LEAs.

Network teachers will remain in their current roles, but will also design and deliver individual projects that address RttT
implementation needs at the classroom, school, or LEA level.

Network teachers will be selected through a rigorous application process, will receive specialized training related to their
projects, and will receive support from NCDPI staff over the course of the year.

Network teachers will be paid $10,000 for their work; this compensation serves to attract outstanding teachers to apply, to
recognize the professionalism and hard work that led the teachers to be selected for this program, and to set an expectation for
the amount and quality of the deliverables and effort that teachers are expected to provide.
